Easy Handmade Gift Baskets

Easy Handmade Gift Baskets

The holidays just passed but I feel like these little baskets could be used for not only the holidays but also party favors for birthdays, baby showers and house warmings. Mind you, I am not an expert baker by any means, so I focused my attention on the gift tags - hand painted by yours truly. Honestly, pink cellophane and a little rustic string is bound to make anything look extra crafty. Read more below.

First, purchase supplies at your local grocery store and/or craft store like Michael's or AC Moore. I have a love/hate relationship with both of these stores, so if you are like me, it is better to have a set list so you don't come out with supplies to make new curtains or some other strange project. You will need baskets, wax paper, string, cellophane and gift tags.

Then decide what you want to put in the basket. I made cookies and supplemented with pre-wrapped chocolates and pretzel hugs, which are incredibly easy to make. Find the recipe here.

Next step, is obviously baking. Luckily my son is 2.5 and he finds it entertaining to "help." We have a Montessori Learning Tower left at the house by the last owners. At first I thought it was a sham, but he loves to crawl in and help cook in his "building." I typically just give my son his own bowl of flour after he decided to mixing with his hands was the best way to combine ingredients. When your kid is in daycare, you never know what super bug they are carrying.

Once all of your goods are cooled and ready to go, line each basket with wax paper, pack it with your goodies, wrap with cellophane and tie it up with a string.  Luckily, cellophane is extremely forgiving so you don't have to worry about messing this part up. I painted the gift tags to give them a little extra special touch, but you could easily stamp, write or sticker them to make them look cute and handmade. The final product is impressive and people always enjoy the effort you put into handmade gifts. We are pretty sure our neighbors love us now...or not. Either way they were pleased with our holiday deliveries!
